Our Curriculum

Building on every child's natural curiosity, our Early Childhood Education programs create warm, engaging environments where children feel safe to explore, ask questions, and discover their full potential.

Our curriculum is aligned with the New Jersey State Department of Education Core Curriculum Content Standards and Early Childhood Education Expectations, ensuring every child at Tata's Kids receives the same quality of instruction and preparation established by the state.

We nurture each child's growth academically, socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. Through intentional play, hands-on activities, and consistent daily routines, children build the confidence and independence they need to thrive in kindergarten and beyond. Our classrooms are student-centered spaces where every child feels valued, developing as critical thinkers, communicators, and problem-solvers while building the social skills needed to collaborate and connect with the world around them.

Our program also embraces the arts and technology as meaningful parts of the learning experience, giving children the opportunity to express themselves creatively and engage with tools that prepare them for the future.

At Tata's Kids, family partnership is at the heart of everything we do. By working closely with families, we build the strongest foundation for every child's success, aligning goals and celebrating progress both in the classroom and at home.

What Your Child Will Learn at TATA’s Kids

Curriculum expectations are developed and outlined by the Union City Board of Education

Social and Emotional Development
Children build self-confidence and healthy relationships through play, learning to cooperate, take turns, and express their feelings in positive ways. We help children develop resilience, independence, and the self-help skills they need to feel capable and proud.

Language Arts Literacy
Children develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, every day through stories, conversations, songs, and hands-on activities. We lay the foundation for a lifelong love of reading by immersing children in real literature and giving them meaningful opportunities to communicate.

Mathematics
Children explore numbers, shapes, measurements, and problem-solving through play and real-life experiences building a strong early foundation in mathematical thinking.

Science
Children learn about the world around them by using their five senses, making observations, conducting simple experiments, and exploring nature, weather, and the environment.

Social Studies
Children develop self-awareness, respect for others and an appreciation for their families, communities, and cultures from around the world. We also introduce concepts like community responsibility and caring for our environment.

Creative Arts
Children express themselves through music, movement, dramatic play, storytelling, and hands-on art, building creativity, and confidence along the way.

Health, Safety, and Physical Education
Children develop healthy habits, body awareness, and important safety knowledge, while building coordination and strength through active play and movement.

World Languages
Children are introduced to languages and cultures beyond their own through songs, stories, and celebrations, fostering an early appreciation for the diversity and cultural appreciation.

Our Curriculum Themes

Throughout the school year, children at Tata's Kids explore ten carefully designed thematic units that weave together literacy, math, science, social studies, health, and physical education into engaging, meaningful learning experiences.

Each theme is brought to life through activities that support children's growth in language, movement, social independence, creativity, and critical thinking — helping them make real connections between what they learn in the classroom and the world around them.

Our themes for the year include:
Welcome to School · I Am Special · Changing Colors · Celebrate · My Family/My Home · It's Cold Outside · My World · Days of Long Ago · New Beginnings · Fun in the Sun

From settling into their new school community in the fall, to celebrating their unique identities and family traditions, to exploring the seasons, their neighborhood, and the natural world, every theme is an opportunity for children to discover, grow, and shine.

Each of our classes is fully equipped with learning materials approved by the Union City Board of Education. To build well rounded students with the confidence to learn and play, every classroom is divided into learning centers. Each center gives students a new opportunity to partake in activities that embody the expectations, themes, and development of skills appropriate for their age.

Math
Through puzzles, counting games, measuring cups, and matching activities, students gain a natural feel for numbers, shapes, and sizes.

Health, Science, & Nature
From talking about weather to caring for our environment, students will be exploring science by touching, asking, and discovering.

Art
Featuring paint, markers, and various collage materials, students are given total independence to create whatever is on their mind, exploring the art of self-expression.

Table Toys & Puzzles
Small hands build big skills while strengthening fine motor skills one piece at a time.

Dramatic Play
Student run grocery stores, play kitchens, and little career professionals are all over the classroom when imagination and confidence is fostered in the dramatic play center.

Water Table
Pouring, splashing, and scooping turn simple materials into crucial periods of hands-on learning and exploration, each student at their own pace.

Books, Library, & Reading
In a cozy corner of our classroom, students can flip through books, “read” to themselves, or relax with a story to spark a love for reading early.

Writing Area
Our writing area gives students the tools to begin expressing themselves and building the foundation for literacy.

Technology
Through guided access of technology, students use kid-friendly software to dray, play skill-based games, and even create their own stories and digital drawings.
